2018 – SUNDAY 04 NOVEMBER
DEATH IS AN APPOINTMENT
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.
1. WE ALL HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH
God has appointed all mankind to pass through death – to shake off our sin cursed created bodies.
Those in Christ will then be given a heavenly body for all eternity.
2. DEATH LEADS TO THE ETERNAL JUDGEMENT
Death is not our judgement – but our doorway to the eternal judgement of all souls.
Death is our release from the sin cursed restrictions and frailties of our physical vehicles.
Judgement for the righteous in Christ is to ascertain rewards.
Judgement for the wicked is to allocate punishment forever.
3. CHRIST TOOK OUR APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH
The punishment for sin is death.
We have all sinned so must all die.
Jesus took our appointment with death – and gave Himself to die for our sins.
Because Jesus was sinless – death and the grave could not hold him.
Death was defeated when Christ rose from the dead by the power of the life giving Spirit of God.
4. TO DIE IS TO GAIN
There is no place – for believers in Christ – to speak of death as a tragedy.
Death is a tragedy for people lost in sin. They will spend eternity in hell – fleeing their worst fears – and pursuing their wildest fantasises – yet never realising either.
God has appointed us all to die.
How and when that happens – is the mystery of His will.
All we know is – that the steps of good people are ordered by the Lord – and death is simply our final human appointment – before glorious eternal life forever.
