GOD AM I STILL A SINNER

So many people struggle with ongoing sin in their lives because they do not understand what it is or how to deal with it. They think that because they have ongoing temptation in a certain area they must be a desperate sinner.

This is not so, as every person struggles with temptation in various areas.

Even though you have been born again and your spirit is clean before God, the presence of sin is still in your mind, your soul and your flesh, and will war against what you want to do for God out of your spirit. This war against sin is ongoing and we must continually and humbly guard ourselves from its ever present attacks.

Psalm 51V3 For I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is always before me

V5 Behold I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.

The key to living a life of victory as a Christian is to understand that temptation will still come, especially in our unique areas of weakness (our faults) and we must know what to do to overcome these constant temptations in our areas of weakness.

In Psalm 51 we read of King David’s heartfelt confession after he had fallen into sin and was now repenting before God for his weakness and failure.

PSALM 51:1

Have mercy upon me O God, according to your loving-kindness

According to the multitude of your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin

THREE EXPRESSIONS OF SIN – ALL ARE FORMS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS

INIQUITY INNER DESIRE TO YIELD TO TEMPTATION

TRANSGRESSION GIVING IN AND CROSSING THE LINE

SIN THE ACT OF INDULGENCE

HERE’S AN EXAMPLE

Farmer John has an orchid full of beautiful fruit trees.

I see them and desire them.

I can turn away and resist or I can yield to temptation and want them.

If I yield to the temptation and desire them, I have allowed iniquity to take hold.

I then climb the fence into the orchid. I am now transgressing even though I have not yet touched the fruit. I have crossed the line and now stand in forbidden territory.

I then reach out and pick the fruit and enjoy it at which point I have committed sin!

QUESTION: WHEN DID I COMMIT SIN

  1. WHEN I WAS TEMPTED?
  2. WHEN I CLIMBED THE FENCE?
  3. WHEN I ATE THE FRUIT?

I want to think that I have not committed sin until I actually eat the forbidden fruit, but the Bible says that all three areas are considered as UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.

HOW TO SIN PROOF YOUR LIFE

  1. UNDERSTAND YOU WILL ALWAYS STRUGGLE WITH INIQUITY.
  2. COMMIT TO NEVER CROSSING THE LINE & TRANSGRESSING.
  3. IF YOU DO COMMIT SIN – GET CLEANSED IMMEDIATELY.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING VERSES OF SCRIPTURE

1 JOHN 1:7,8 & 9

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

THINGS TO DO TO STAY FREE FROM SIN

  1. WALK IN THE LIGHT OF GODS WORD DAILY
  2. HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER CHRISTIANS CONTINUALLY
  3. ENJOY PERSONAL PRAYER AND INTIMACY WITH GOD
  4. NEVER DENY THE PRESENCE & POTENTIAL FOR SIN
  5. TREAT TEMPTATION AS THE BEGINNING OF SIN
  6. CONFESS OUR SINS DAILY BEFORE THE LORD
  7. APPLY THE BLOOD TO OUR LIVES DAILY

That is excellent. I have just read Ps 39:1 where David says, “I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue.”
    Great teaching. Thanks.

This is great teaching, because we can live a life free from condemnation. Romans 8,1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation to those who are Christ Jesus.
