On my morning walk to Mooloolaba for coffee I was startled by a school kid on a bike rushing past me. He was pedalling furiously with his head down and I soon realized why. He reached an upcoming corner in the pathway and with great skill mounted the side of a dividing garden and launched himself in the air. He sailed gracefully over the complete garden only to land on the front of an old man’s bike coming the other way. The young kid had been so focussed on gaining as much speed as possible and pulling off an awesome accomplishment he forgot to think of others who may be sharing the path of life with him.
I am sure there is a message there somewhere.
However – the best is yet to come. As I approached the carnage just in time to hear the last few pieces of broken glass fall to the ground – the old man reached out to the young kid and put his hand on his helmet with the words – don’t worry about my bike son, I can always get new parts, but how is your leg. You have been hurt – let me have a look. And with a few words of kindness and compassion the young foolhardy kid took off again to go jump some more hurdles in life, while the old man quietly rode home to carry the cost of damages done by another dreamer crossing his path in life.
The moral of the story – never destroy the dream in others – even if sometimes it costs you to repair the damages.
We can’t live without dreamers so make sure you are the kind of person who helps keep the dream alive.
Great post Ps Steve. Really enjoyed it and the others you have recently posted. And all just from slowing down and going for coffee! Keep up the good work! Joseph
