LEAVING THE WILDERNESS

2019 – SUNDAY 14 APRIL

LEAVING THE WILDERNESS

Exodus 15.16-18
Till Your people pass over, O Lord,
Till the people pass over
Whom You have purchased.
You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance,
In the place, O Lord, which You have made for Your own dwelling,
The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
“The Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

The children of Israel did not go in and possess the promised land because they forgot a number of things about their God.

THE PASSOVER
The Passover in Egypt was unbelievable. The blood of a lamb on the lintels of their doors caused the death angel to pass over their dwellings.
THEY FORGOT THE PASSOVER

THE PURCHASE
God declared to Egypt that His people were His purchased possession – and no force on earth would stop Him leading them out of bondage.
He paid the price to purchase our salvation.
THEY FORGOT WHO PURCHASED THEM

THE PLANTING
God’s plan was simple. He would plant them in His place of inheritance and nothing could ever separate them- from the place of His planting.
The promised land was an end to spiritual wandering.
THEY FORGOT WHERE THEY WERE TO BE PLANTED

THE PLACE
The promised land and the mountain of the Lord were shaped specifically by God’s hand for His people.
It was a place where God’s honour would dwell on earth.
It was a sanctuary of safety and provision prepared for His people.
We find the promised place – when we learn to live in Christ.
Life in Christ is the promised land. All else is still wilderness wandering
THEY FORGOT WHAT GOD HAD PREPARED FOR THEM

THE PERMANENCE
The land was not another experiment in better living.
The land was the place of God’s presence – in which was fulness of joy. It was His land and we were His children.
Learning to live fully in Christ with His Spirit and His word in you – is the only permanent and positive way of life.
The Lord shall reign forever and ever.
THEY FORGOT THE ONE WHO IS LIFE ETERNAL

IN HIM IS LIFE….
