Recently I was in discussion with a friend as to what the future looked like for the next generation.

Sadly the worldwide recession has dampened the spirits of a generation not quite sure of their future value to the global family.

Currently the world is sliding unrestrained into a huge abyss of global debt.

This generation of leaders has been raised to think that all you have to do is print monopoly money and throw it at the problem, and it will be solved.

This solution will never remedy the crumbling institution called Materialism and Greed, and such irresponsible debt will certainly put leg-irons on the next generation.

The real problem right now is a world that is sliding backwards away from sustainable values into a dark world void of any moral absolutes.

We are reaping the wages of ungodly choices, with many of the costs of community now being incurred in a vain attempt to overcome the fruits of individual & corporate disorder.

We are now sliding backwards into what history will record as one of the dark periods in more recent global history.

What can we do as a christian community to look forward with hope of a better future.

1. We need to live with moral uprightness before God.

2. We need to accept responsibility to be active salt & light in our communities.

3. We need to model Christian stewardship and reduce our personal debt as quickly as possible.

4. We need to build strong connectedness with other Christians in our local church and do our faith journey together.

5. We need to return to the Bible as the absolute guide for life, and the foundation for our authority.

6. We need to learn to live in the fulness of the spirit and so enjoy the life of Christ.

7. We need to grow up into Him and become mature so that we overcome attacks and offenses when they come.

I personally believe this current global season is very healthy for the church to bring us back into right order before God, and prepare us to see the harvest now ripe all around us. It is time to awaken to God’s call to reap the nations, and get prepared to be used effectively by Him is this great season of Global ingathering.

A great thought for the day.
I agree. Today offers amazing Kingdom opportunity to shine securely in a shaking time.
There are kingdom people also feeling the ecconomic pinch but as they stand unshakable in there faith that God is our eternal rock,
others will see and realise the materialism does not offer lasting answers.

Thanks so much for your words of wisdom.
I appreciate how your tips are relevant to any Christian in any financial situation.
I feel for those who have found themselves sliding sliding sliding already as it could look like quite an impossible road to travel to get on top of it all. If that’s you – keep going and trust that God who loves you so so much, will not forsake you there, but will be with you all the way.

As much as I admire and certainly appreciate the suggestion that we model Christian stewardship, I am not quite sure we even knows what that means. Much of our cultural today assumes their responsiblity as a Christian steward in terms of prosperity and the economic realities of yesterday. I presume that in order to demonstrate Christian stewardship, all generations must be called to give more with less. We have long taught the church that giving may require us to sacrifice at some point or another- the time has come. Are we ready?
