2017 – SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER
I am always challenged by how needy we are as human beings.
Don’t fool yourself – you are as needy as the next person.
I think there are five needs that we all seek to have fulfilled.
The deepest need of the human soul is to be loved.
We desperately want to be loved by God – but religion has demanded a behavioural qualification – and so most people do not feel loved by God.
We also want be loved by somebody.
The search for love transcends gender, race and religion.
We desperately want to be accepted. People will sell their soul for acceptance into a tribe they consider cool.
Churches that accept sinners are booming.
People want to find – and have their unique identity recognised by their tribe.
Uniqueness is a longing in every human soul.
Help people find their true identity in Christ – and you will have a friend for life.
People want to feel valued. Finding your fit and knowing your contribution is valued, is very important to people.
Use words that add value to others.
People will do anything to be part of a team.
It is not good for man to be alone.
Family, marriage, community, society all represent forms of teams. We can’t do without them.
Church should meet all of the above five needs of people.
You are the church!
