2019 – MONDAY 01 JULY
SNUFFING OUT THE LIGHT
David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.
DAVID STOPPED GOING TO WAR
King David lost his passion for the presence and purpose of God – and allowed his heart to be distracted and drawn toward another woman. Distraction leads to distorted desires.
URIAH – THE LIGHT WAS SNUFFED OUT
Bathsheba’s husband Uriah was sent to the front lines to be killed.
URIAH – was a valiant soldier in King David’s army.
His name means – the Lord is my light.
BATHSHEBA WAS TAKEN
Bathsheba – means daughter of the oath.
The light was snuffed out and the covenant was broken.
TROUBLE WILL BE YOUR OFFSPRING
David suffered many troubles from within his own family. Tyranny and deception had been given permission to oppress his house – through David’s own disobedience.
The prophet declared God’s judgement regarding his actions.
SOLOMON THE NEW SEASON
Sadly the illegitimate child of David and Bathsheba’s love affair died from illness – and Solomon was next to be born.
Finally Solomon inherited the throne of Israel.
All seemed to be back in right order – until Solomon also degenerated into tyranny and deception.
Like father – like son.
Israel under Solomon’s reign went from gold and glitter – to gone forever.
The nation was lost forever because of Solomon’s penchant for personal pleasure and self aggrandisement.
THE THRONE RESTORED TO DAVID’S LINEAGE
Why would God restore the throne to David when both he and his son failed in similar fashion.
THE POWER OF REPENTANCE
Psalm 51 is one of my most read Psalms.
It declares the great truth of the gospel.
Failure is defeated –
by the finished work of Christ – for all who confess their sin –
and seek forgiveness.
David repented of his wrongs.
Solomon rejected any wrong.
