2019 – THURSDAY 21 FEBRUARY
STRUCTURE AND SPIRIT
Yesterday I shared the structure I use in my daily God presence times.
I need a structure to keep me guided – and use them as sign posts during my prayers.
The important things to remember regarding the structures of your life are as follows.
STRUCTURE SUPPORTS SPIRIT
Structure always supports your spirit. It can never be in control – but it can be the support for your spirits activity and growth.
Like a trellis that supports the grape vines to grow and flourish.
STRUCTURE STRENGTHENS SPIRIT
The structure you adopt must reflect who you are – and allow you to pray freely and effectively.
Never let your structure dominate.
Use it to be strong in prayer.
STRUCTURE REFLECTS SOUL
I am a structured person and feel at home within ordered and known boundaries. Therefore a structured approach to prayer and Bible study sets me at ease to be my best.
STRUCTURE IS NOT THE CLOCK
I try and spend an hour in prayer and an hour in the word each day.
However I do not watch the clock – nor let the structure tell me how long to pray in each category.
For example – when praying for the leaders God has put on my heart – I firstly pray for them all and bring them before God – but then I allow the Holy Spirit to direct me as to which specific leaders I should pray for on any given day.
STRUCTURE IS NOT THE SPIRIT
Some days I will put the headphones on and turn up a great praise and worship album – and then go through my structure list as I worship. I treat this as singing songs of victory over those on my lists.
Other days I spend the time praying in tongues over specific prayer matters and leaving some on the list until tomorrow.
Remember all prayer is about entering God’s presence.
Make that your goal – and God will help you achieve your goals.
JESUS IS THE VINE – YOU ARE THE BRANCHES – NOT THE TRELLIS
