2018 – TUESDAY 10 JULY
SUBMITTING TO GOVERNMENTS
“Render therefore to all their due:
A. taxes to whom taxes are due,
B. customs to whom customs,
C. fear to whom fear,
D. honor to whom honor.”
There is a clear teaching from Paul to the Christian church that helps us respond well to rulers and governments.
It is the obligation of every Christian to help provide for good community services. Our taxes are our willing provision as citizens of our chosen nation.
Every nation has both a culture and associated customs.
To become meaningful contributors to a nation – involves the adoption of their customs. EG standing to honour their flag and national anthem.
3. FEAR – RESPECT
To fear a government is to respect and obey their rules.
Without such fear – a society degenerates into anarchy.
Christians should lead the way in obeying the rules.
To show honour is to know honour.
Dishonourable people cannot show honour as they do not know honour.
You can always find something to show honour for.
5. RENDER TO ALL THEIR DUE
We are taught to render to our leaders all their due.
They are due the above four things.
Things they are NOT DUE.
Our worship – belongs to God
Our obedience to God’s word
Our covenant of marriage
Our commitment to family
Our gathering together in Christ
There is one more thing our leaders are especially due – your prayers.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PRAY FOR
YOU GET WHAT YOU STAY FOR
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
