Squirrels at the door

I am staying in a delightful English Manor in a little village called Rusper. It is on the outskirts of Horsham in Sth. East England. A lovely part of the world and every morning I have little squirrels frolicking around outside my door. With foxes and pheasant and deer also in abundance it is quite outstanding.
Amazingly it is all taken for granted by the locals who see it regularly as part of their daily life.
My driver yesterday nearly ran over three pheasant who ventured onto the roadway. In fact driving around these beautiful hedge lined country lanes is just so beautiful – yet goes unnoticed to the local who has grown up with it.
A bit like life really.
Never take for granted the beauty of a brand new day. Even of it looks the same it is unique.
Never take God’s blessings for granted. They are new and fresh every morning.
Never take for granted the unique animals in your life. We have all different kinds of people who make up our world and they can become common place and familiar. Keep the beauty and majesty of God alive in your world and never take things for granted. The people and things around you are the handiwork of God and should continually elicit thankfulness to God for his greatness.

DREAMING OR DROOLING

What do you do when you see something that you would really really like. For me it may be an amazing sports car, or a huge boat. As it goes past you will engage in one of two responses. You will either DROOL in ENVY – or you will DREAM in EXPECTATION.

Drooling in envy simply says that the owner of your desired object is luckier than you and so you envy their achievements or acquisitions.

However the other person who sees an amazing object or achievement – allows it to inspire them to dream bigger in the expectation that one day they too will achieve or attain the same levels of blessing and favour.

DONT be a person that envies everyone else in life. Drooling over another man’s things will never help bring them to pass.

However dreaming of ways to achieve similar ends and learning from those who have achieved will start the journey toward greater things.

Nobody ever achieved great things by enviously drooling over another mans achievements.

Every time I see an amazing motor car or bike or boat or whatever, I take a few minutes to dream of the day when I also may be able to enjoy such blessings.

This always leads to greater purpose and planning and a new sense of enthusiasm that I will be able to keep pressing forward to greater things.

Stop drooling over everyone else’s success and start dreaming of your own.

Then start planning the step by step journey that will one day get you there.

No short cuts. No excuses. No escape routes. No second options. Not having a bit of everything.

Just plain old focus, sacrifice and hard work – to press on toward the dreams you have hidden inside you.

Tears on Christmas Day

I realized again today that I usually shed a few tears every Christmas day.
I woke up early as usual and started to thank God for sending Jesus to rescue me from the curse of sin. I then began thanking Him for all the blessings we have received throughout the year.
God has been so good to us and so I shed a few tears while thanking Him for all his blessings.
A little while later a few tears began to flow while we were opening our Christmas presents as a family. It always becomes apparent that our eldest son Andrew is not with us and so a few quiet tears flow amidst the joy of giving and receiving our gifts.
The other time during the day when a few tears get through my guard is when everyone has gone or out doing something and I have time alone to look back over the year now gone and consider some of the mistakes I have made and opportunities I have missed.
I always do a stocktake at Xmas as the new year just a few days away causes me to focus on things ahead. And so as I look back over my year – as I am doing right now – I find a few tears come to the surface over silly things said and done. But that is why I like Xmas. Because God understands how I feel and is quick to forgive and make whole. Sometimes in all the fuss and frenzy of Xmas a few tears can help put it all into perspective and help us turn again to the loving arms of the one who sent His only Son to invade our world with unconditional love.

FAITHFULNESS

I have been challenged a lot about faithfulness in recent days.

I have had occasion to watch gifted people make life choices based on their inability to understand the blessings associated with faithfulness.

FAITHFULNESS is doing the COMMON things CONSISTENTLY with a COMMITMENT that transcends CONVENIENCE.

In other words faithfulness is being committed to doing the basic things consistently whether there is immediate reward or recognition.

Emptying the bin in the kitchen on a daily basis.

Being on time at musicians practice.

Loving your friends even when they are behaving badly.

Giving to the cause through the tough times.

Being committed to the wife of your youth as the years roll by.

FAITHFULNESS has never been about you – it is always about others and the things you have promised to do for them.

That is why faithfulness is the foundation upon which everything you do will ultimately be judged by God.

To be a faithful person you must learn and grow in faithfulness in three areas.

1. FAITHFUL to the gifts and calling God has placed within you.

2. FAITHFUL to the relationships God has placed you in.

3. FAITHFUL to the promises and commitments you make.

Until you learn to be faithful in these three areas you will at best be one of the following.

1. A drifting gifting.

2. A self focussed island.

3. An unstable ego.

Consider again the commendation by God for each one of us when we reach his eternal Kingdom.

Well – Done – Good – Faithful – Servant.

Everything in God’s commendation is connected to your ability to be faithful.

Once you learn this – God will promote you.
