Who ripped up the greens

Played golf this morning on my home Course – Pelican Waters – on the Sunshine Coast. I forgot that they were renovating the greens, which basically means they are ripped to pieces- which helps them grow back better.
It makes it impossible to putt when the greens are so rough, and so in order to enjoy the game we had to make the following adjustments. Similar to life.

A. Make up your mind to enjoy the game.
The conditions of the road you travel in life should never determine your outlook.
There is always a way to enjoy every rough road in life.
Your attitude will determine how rough the road or season really is.

B. Change the rules.
We adopted a two putt maximum rule.
It helped us actually play better as we now focussed on getting onto the green in as few shots as possible.
Sometmes it is okay to change the rules as it can help you get through really rough patches in life.
Sometimes we try to live by rules that make life impossible. Lighten up and chill if it is getting to rough.

C. Hit the ball harder.
Because the greens are so rough we found that we had to putt the ball a lot harder to get close to the hole.
When life gets rough – sometimes you have to hit the ball a bit harder. Give it a little more effort. Put the foot down on the gas peddle and smooth out the bumps on the road.

D. Don’t play in the comp.
We decided not to play in the competition as it would reflect badly on our handicap.
Don’t let the rough patches in your life set your handicap. You are better than that – so wait until the conditions improve and post a great score.
Too many people value themselves according to their down days. Never do that – always value yourself according to your premium performances.

So you see – life will always deal some rough patches. Make sure you adjust to such seasons to come through as best as you can – so you are ready to excel as the conditions improve again.
Incidently I still posted a great Stableford score of 40 points. Go figure. SJP

PLANNING TO EXCEL IN 70 DAYS

WE ARE WELL INTO OUR 70 DAYS TO EXCEL.

However many responses indicate that people do not know how to develop a program to ensure daily commitment to actions that will cause you to improve.

Consider the following questions.

QUESTION ONE – WHY does God want me to do this campaign – seek God’s wisdom as to His call for your life.

QUESTION TWO – WHAT should I aim at achieving over the period – establish objectives/goals

QUESTION THREE – HOW will I achieve these goals – I need a workable daily program

QUESTION FOUR – WHEN will I set the completion date. – 70 days from start date.

QUESTION FIVE – HOW MUCH will this program cost in terms of money, time and effort – HOW WILL I find this resource.

QUESTION SIX – WHO am I accountable to as a partner in this challenge – to keep me focussed and encouraged

QUESTION SEVEN – HOW WILL I CELEBRATE on accomplishing my goals.

EXCEL IN YOUR WORKPLACE

Our Excel in 70 days campaign is really gaining momentum globally as people join from many different nations. The idea is to set aside 70 days to prepare ourselves for a greater future in God. The areas you may need to excel in will probably be totally different to the things I need to address, to be the best I can.

We initially identified four areas to set goals in, as follows:

1. Personal responsibility

2. Family relationships

3. Spiritual disciplines

4. Social & community

I want to add a fifth area of focus which has been presented to me from many responses received. It is the area of our VOCATION or workplace responsibility. I agree wholeheartedly that this needs to be identified as an area in which we need to excel.

The Apostle Paul continually encouraged the early church to be faithful and diligent when serving masters, and to give maximum effort to all business initiatives.

Lets add this fifth area of excellence to our 70 days to excel and see what God can do in our lives.

Hey! Today is day seven of our 70 days and by now we should have identified the key areas of improvement and set in place the daily plan to achieve our new levels in life.

Keep focussed on the prize and press toward it with strong purpose. SJP

70 DAYS TO EXCEL

I was having dinner with Brian Houston last week and talking about preparing for a new season, when he challenged me to set aside 70 days to excel in areas of my life. We both felt it was a God moment and jumped at it, deciding to hold each other accountable for the next 70 days – which ends on the Friday night of Hillsong Conference.

Last Sunday we shared it in our churches and the take-up response was amazing. So many people have been sensing God leading them to prepare for a new season in their lives. I personally believe that the world is ready for a new wave of radical Christianity. The world is tottering on the brink of chaos and the church is poised to take up new positions of influence and authority world wide. Anyway back to the 70 days to excel.
