THE HYPERBOLE OF HUBRIS
The hyperbole of hubris simply means – the exaggerated statements of self focussed people.
“excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance.”
“an extravagant statement or figure of speech”
I have to be honest and confess at times I have overstated my case.
It is so easy to make comments that self aggrandise.
How does one declare in faith – without engaging in self promotion.
1. ABSTAIN FROM SELFIES
Selfies have become the new norm for this self focussed culture.
Make sure your photos include others in your world.
2. TELL REAL STORIES
Don’t use second hand stories as though you were there.
Use real life stories of what God has done in your world. Be authentic.
3. USE GOD’S WORD TRULY
The foundation of all we say and do – is the word of God.
Sharing your opinion is tantamount to hyperbole. Fit God’s word to your lips and you will lose many acquaintances who just want to engage in gossip.
4. ALWAYS SHOW HONOUR
Whatever you do make sure it honours those in your world.
Self promotion is seen for what it is – hubris.
5. LOVE GOD – LOVE PEOPLE – LOVE LIFE
At the end of the day your love for God, people and life – should shine through. Love is never about promoting self – but all about revealing Christ in you – to others.
1 Peter 5:6
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
