2019 – SUNDAY 03 MARCH
THE POWER OF MENTORS
Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness. There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.
MENTORS ARE LEADERS WHO LIVE WHAT THEY PREACH
Consider and honour those who rightly divide the word of truth to you. Watch how they live and you will know what they believe.
Notice the two qualities required – faithfulness and truthfulness.
MENTORS ARE AHEAD OF YOU
Mentors are those who have gone ahead of you in the faith.
They are paving a way into greater things in God.
MENTORS ARE PEOPLE OF FAITH
Mentors may not be older and wiser than you, but they are leading you to live by faith in the promises of God.
Their faith is seen in their faithfulness and truthfulness.
They know how to keep the faith, and to pursue the miracle.
MENTORS HAVE SCARS
All leaders have some scars from the battles of life. Scars are simply the evidence that a battle wound has healed.
Beware leaders without scars.
Beware wounded leaders who hide their wounds.
MENTORS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS
Mentors are not necessarily your friends – but they are committed to your best. Mentors tell you the truth that friends often won’t.
MENTORS HELP YOU TO MATURE IN CHRIST
Our goal together is to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Mentoring is not hand holding or counselling – it is shaping and discipling and adjusting.
The world views mentors as coaches and gurus – the church calls mentors – Fathers.
