THE REAL CHAMPIONS IN LIFE!
Congratulations to our Sunshine Coast region for staging an excellent triathlon each year.
Champion athletes from many nations gather to compete at the highest level.
Accolades and praise are showered upon the winners and the countless hours of training reaps its reward.
Each of these superb athletes deserves all the rewards of winning and I love winners, but there is another group of champions in every event who must be cheered on for their tireless efforts to make these great events happen.
They are the volunteers who man the stations around the event, or who set up and pack down before and after. They are the ones who though seen, remain unseen, are by and large invisible yet always there when needed.
These people are true champions and show these qualities every year in helping stage another great event for our region.
Contrast that to my visit to the cricket in Brisbane recently when prepaid ticket holders were subjected to up to two hours wait to get into the ground causing many to miss the first half hour of the game.
When enquiries were made as to the problem a deaf ear was turned and many thousands of people became very disenchanted with the event.
