One of the most fascinating studies of human life is to go out with friends to a restaurant and watch the way they treat the waiters.
I am constantly amazed at the rudeness of so called Christian people when it comes to the way we treat our modern day servants.
Yes – it is your money and you do have a right to service.
Yes- it is true the service today seems to be getting worse.
Yes – it is true that some wait staff just don’t care and are downright rude.
However I find that some people seem to enjoy making a scene over very trivial matters.
Acting like a Prima Donna because you are the client just doesn’t wash with me.
I remember going to my favourite cafe only to find they had new staff who didn’t know I was a regular and didn’t seem to care. They then got my order wrong which spoilt what could have been a lovely day at the beach.
I left somewhat upset and the Holy Spirit started dealing with me. I went back the next day to make friends with the new waitress and found she had been through some very difficult relational issues and actually needed someone to talk to. She then confided that she knew who I was and had actually visited our church. Thank God I acted in a reasonable manner the first day and then by the Holy Spirit showed friendship the next day.
God help us to treat people as part of God’s human family whether we know them or not.
Remember – one day you might just be serving them.
