UNDER THE BLOOD OR UNDER THE BRIDGE

2019 – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY

UNDER THE BLOOD OR UNDER THE BRIDGE

1. THE WORLD SWEEPS THINGS UNDER THE RUG – OR UNDER THE BRIDGE
It is part of our humanity to want to escape the consequences of our stupidity.
To hide our faults and failings is a natural desire in all of us.
However it is not a spiritual decision that helps us – but a natural decision to protect our carnal image.

2. THE CHRISTIAN PUTS THINGS UNDER THE BLOOD
God has given us freedom from sin and its curse. It is found under the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness was effected in eternity before time and earth’s creation began.
However Jesus still had to enter time and creation to effect the plan.
So too we must take the time and make the effort to repent and be cleansed from our earthly failings.
You can’t put things under the blood without humility and repentance.

3. IF IT IS NOT UNDER THE BLOOD – IT IS NOT UNDER THE BRIDGE
We are exhorted to brings our hurts disappointments and failures to the one who has forgiven us of all things.
The blood of Jesus covers all things – however our act of faith is in bringing such things and putting them under the blood.
It is foolish to simply say – what happened yesterday is water under the bridge.
Pride puts things under the bridge to protect self – and wants to get on with business as usual.
The gospel of grace does not put things under the bridge – but under the blood.
If it is not under the blood – you will more than likely still struggle it.

4. FAITH MAKES A WAY THROUGH THE RIVER OF DEATH.
The Jordan river is called “the descender.” It starts from three springs in the mountains and rapidly descends into the Dead Sea.
We do not go with the flow – looking for a new start at the next bend in the river- or under the next bridge – or the start of a new year. Faith in Christ breaks across the downward spiral of sin and death – to pass over to the promised land.

THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT IS – LIFE IN CHRIST – SETS ME FREE FROM THE RIVER OF SIN – WHICH LEADS TO DEATH.
