This coming week in Australia is Volunteers Week when we honour those who serve in our communities. Australia has such a strong volunteer spirit which I guess comes from our Aussie spirit of mateship. We have masses of volunteers who make so many of the great events run smoothly, and who assist with people management in so many organisations, and who also shoulder the load of caring for those less fortunate in our world. Without these amazing people our Governments would be broke, our hospitals would be sterile institutions without a caring soul, and our schools would be unable to operate on present budgets. We certainly need our volunteers to stay committed to the cause.
Truth be known, many of these wonderful volunteers are actually people who have been helped and inspired in the local churches across our land, and who then give up so much to make life better for the people who make up their world. It’s what Jesus told us to do. To love our neighbor as ourself. So don’t forget to honor those amazing people we call volunteers.
