WHEN PRODIGALS DEPART

2019 – MONDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

WHEN PRODIGALS DEPART

2 Timothy 4:10
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed.

THE SADNESS OF LOSS
My greatest sadness as a leader is to have one of those you have raised up, prayed for, encouraged and promoted – forsake my manner of life (doctrine) and faith (demonstration) – and follow their own ways.

THE LOVE OF SELF
Prodigals are simply those who love self – above all else.
Something goes astray and they believe they know the best way forward.
The love of this world is always seen as the love of self. The name Demas means – popular.
SIN is simply – Self Interest Now.

FORSAKING THOSE WHO LOVE YOU
There is something wrong when a son or daughter in the faith rejects the counsel of those who love them – and choose to forsake their manner of life.
Your father’s faith – if proven and consistent – is your greatest inheritance.

DEPARTED FROM THE FAITH
It takes a real and intentional action to depart from the way of faith – taught by our fathers.
Faith – does not come from a designer doctrine – crafted to suit your contemporary convenience.
Faith is a deep entrustment- learnt from generations past – in the faithfulness of God and the veracity of His word.

DEPARTED FROM THE FAITH
When someone departs for the faith – they must be forgiven, cleansed and restored.
When the prodigal returned in repentance – the Father specifically restored him to his rightful place in the household of faith.

HE WAS WILLING TO RETURN
He returned to his father in repentance.
He received from the father righteous robes.
He submitted to the Father’s love & authority.
He was given his sonship sandals.
He returned to serving the Father’s house.

Isaiah 30:15
In returning and rest you shall be saved.
