2019 – TUESDAY 09 APRIL
YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
The Bible commands us to train our children in the way of the Lord.
SHARE BOTH PROMISES AND PROBLEMS
We chose to be honest with our children about the challenges we face in doing God’s will.
Your children need to see how you outwork your faith.
Obviously there are things a parent does not share with a small child. It is foolishness to dump your burden on small children. But as they grow they must learn how your faith works in the real world.
IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
A parent should never tell their children it is none of their business. They are family and can see – and do overhear – what you are dealing with.
If it is not their business – they will find their business somewhere else.
ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH
People know when they are being played. Your children can read you like a book – so be open about your challenges and let them walk through them with you. And use the truth of God’s word with them – to overcome the issues of life.
KEEPING YOUR CONFIDENCE
I refuse to keep secrets for anyone.
Don’t tell me if it is your secret.
I have yet to find a person who can keep a secret.
However I do respect the confidentiality others have asked of me.
If they want my counsel on something confidential – I will honour it.
I ask my children to keep some things in confidence until they hear me sharing it openly.
They don’t always keep things confidential – so we then need to talk about respecting confidentiality.
WALKING IN LOVE
I want my children and their children to love the Lord and His church – despite our human failings. I want my children to have faith in God’s ability to take care of everything.
